THE CHALLENGE
The St. Boniface Hospital Redevelopment project presented a significant challenge in providing public access to an occupied space while adhering to stringent regulations mandating the installation of live sprinklers in a temporary corridor. The project team had to ensure that the sprinkler lines did not freeze and burst in the harsh winter temperatures characteristic of Winnipeg.
THE SOLUTION
The team installed stackable sensors directly onto the sprinkler lines, providing continuous monitoring of ambient air temperature in the temporary corridor. Enabling them to detect any fluctuations in temperature and establish temperature thresholds that would automatically trigger alerts should the temperature fall below a specific threshold.
THE RESULT
The project team was able to prevent significant damage and potential insurance claims on several occasions when ambient air temperatures dropped below -20C. By promptly receiving alerts they were able to make repairs swiftly and provide heating to prevent the sprinkler lines from freezing. Without JSI in place, the project would have suffered substantial setbacks and incurred significant expenses.
